Our design team felt strongly that the kitchen needed to be relocated. By creating a large center island where the dining room once was, and repurposing the old kitchen as a pantry, we were able to open up the entire central space. This allowed us to design a spacious, open area for entertaining, dining, and working around the new kitchen.
The dark wood beams were painted to blend with the walls, and the brick was removed in some areas and painted over in others. Carefully chosen pops of color added whimsy and charm. Concrete tiles, organic wood shelving, and new oak flooring brought the warmth they were looking for while keeping the space light, bright, and fresh.
The final touch was a 19-foot custom millwork unit installed in the living area, featuring a sliding screen to cover the television when not in use. A desk area was added for their teenage sons to work on laptops, along with much-needed closed storage for games and books. The final layer of furnishings, incorporating the same wood elements and pops of organic color, completed this amazing space and gave it new life.
