COPAKE BARNS

A collection of four post and beam barns, moved from their original locations, comprise this stunning property. The interiors were disjointed and undefined, so each structure was renovated to create distinct uses and reflect a refined, rugged sensibility along with the client’s fair for the dramatic.

The great room was all about honoring the view. The original barn had incredible bones but felt chaotic with its sprawling beams and vast volume, so our focus was on calming the architecture and letting the landscape take the lead. We expanded the glazing as much as possible and kept the materials as supporting cast. Layered furnishings, unexpected textures, and pieces from different eras brought warmth back into the space without competing with the surroundings.

The soul of the property revealed itself the moment you arrived. Mature gardens, old trees, and the sense of quiet permanence guided every choice we made. In the sunroom and the outdoor-facing spaces, the goal was simply to harmonize with what was already here. Light, restrained materials, gentle textures, and an easy flow keep the focus on the landscape and the calm that settles over the property from the moment you step onto it.

Instead of a long, formal dining setup, we created a more intimate area anchored by the fireplace, with detailed chairs and soft lighting that suit smaller gatherings. The bar and entertaining spaces follow the same approach. Rustic beams, reclaimed wood, and historic fixtures mix with quieter, modern elements, blending eras in a way that feels collected rather than styled. The goal was a place where the client could unwind, work in peace, or host a cozy dinner without shifting the mood of the home.
